Geographic Station Selection Tool – User Guide
Overview
The Geographic Station Selection Tool allows you to easily find meteorological stations around the world and download climate data files in both SI (metric) and IP (imperial) units. This intuitive tool visualizes station locations on an interactive map and provides quick access to climate data reports.
Getting Started
1. Selecting a Country
- From the first dropdown menu labeled “Country,” click to open the list of available countries
- You can either:
- Scroll through the alphabetically sorted list to find your desired country
- Type the country name to filter the list
- Click on your country of choice to select it
Once you’ve selected a country, the “Station” dropdown will automatically populate with available weather stations
- The stations are sorted alphabetically by name
- You can:
- Browse through all stations in the country
- Type a station name to filter the list
- Look for a specific city or region
- Click on your desired station to select it
- Zoom in to show the station’s location
- Place a marker at the exact coordinates
- Display a popup with station details
- You can:
- Click and drag to pan around the map
- Use the + and – buttons to zoom in or out
- Click on the marker to see station information if the popup closes
4. Downloading Climate Data Files
- Once a station is selected, two download buttons will become available:
- Download SI: Climate data using metric units (°C, kPa, m/s, etc.)
- Download IP: Climate data using imperial units (°F, psi, mph, etc.)
- Simply click on your preferred format to download the PDF file
- Files will be named according to the station’s WMO code (e.g., “123456_SI.pdf”)
Tips for Best Use
Finding Specific Locations
If you’re looking for climate data for a specific city but don’t know which country or station to select:
- Select the country where the city is located
- In the station dropdown, type the name of your city or a nearby major city
- Select the station closest to your target location
Map Navigation
- Zoom: Use the + and – buttons or your mouse scroll wheel
- Pan: Click and drag the map to move around
- Reset View: If you select a new country, the map will reset to show a global view
Troubleshooting Downloads
If you encounter issues downloading files:
- Check your internet connection
- Ensure your browser allows downloads from this site
- Try using a different browser if problems persist
Available Data in Downloads
